Building Dreams with Make-A-Wish Singapore
To all kids and kids at heart, Happy
Children’s Day!
In celebration of Children’s Day,
we at IKR have teamed up with Team Patronus of Dunman High School to illustrate
a very special comic inspired by a kid named Sage. This collaboration is to raise
awareness for Make-A-Wish Singapore and to help raise funds in order to continue
fulfilling the wishes of children with critical illnesses.
For Sage, there is not a dream too
big and a dreamer too small. Diagnosed with maple syrup urine disease from
birth, Sage had to undergo two liver transplants, and take immunosuppressant drugs
for the rest of his life. Playing with LEGO with his brother helped Sage go through
his operation.
LEGO has become Sage’s source of
joy and also his inspiration to become a LEGO designer. With the help of
Make-A-Wish Singapore and LEGO, Sage’s dream came true.
After an interview with
Denmark-based LEGO designer, Marcos Bessa, Sage was given an opportunity of a
lifetime. Now “hired” as a LEGO designer, Sage was able to build a spaceship
and even had the honour to present it. To help raise funds to grant more wishes
for children, Sage donated one of his spaceships to a charity auction. Martin
Berry, chairman and founder of the Gong Cha Group, made a successful bid of $1800!
For the icing on the cake, Sage
was even rewarded a stay in LEGOLAND Hotel on his birthday!
With his positive personality and
tenacious spirit, Sage has become an inspiration for everyone around him.
We’re so glad to celebrate Children’s
Day with Sage’s story! Read our full comic here.
How about you? How are you planning
to spend Children’s Day?
Children’s Day is a highly
anticipated festivity especially for our little ones. This is a day to
celebrate them as unique individuals with a great potential to make an impact
in the world.
Today, children are definitely
given the free pass to be indulged with gifts and celebrations from their
families, special school activities, and countrywide events dedicated to them.
And to the rest of us who think
we are way past the age range for kids, age is just a number! In fact, Children’s
Day is the perfect time for us to relive our childhood once more and reconnect
with our inner child.
Regardless of age, Children’s Day
can be about spending time with our parents, reconnecting with old friends, and
revisiting past hobbies from our youth.
This is also a time for us to
reflect and recognise the struggles that disadvantaged children go through. Take
time to learn more about children foundations and how you can provide support
with the best of your capabilities.
May this day be a healing day for
you and your child, literally and figuratively. Happy Children’s Day!
